Budget Cuts and Social Security: What Do I Need to Know?

|

You may be asking yourself how the Social Security budget cuts that are mentioned in the news may affect your application for benefits. Those are valid and reasonable concerns to have. They are likely to affect you, the client, in several ways.

First, the budgetary constraints have forced local offices to operate under reduced hours and staff. Secondly, due to the reduction of operational hours, Social Security staff will have larger workloads. Basically, this means fewer people to do more work in less time. This has created long lines in the local offices and delays in processing paperwork. Finally, some offices have closed due to these budgetary constraints. In theMemphisarea they have closed one office. Losing an office in theMemphisarea in December of 2012 has already created delays for our clients. These setbacks are expected to continue.

For your convenience, we have compiled a list of the offices in the Mid-South area, their amended hours, and their phone numbers.
